By now may have heard about 826michigan’s latest publication, Enjoy! Recipes for Building Community, a collaborative effort between Ypsilanti students and well-known chefs with Michigan roots (Mario Batali! Ari Weinzweig!). It’s a beautiful book our students and volunteers have spent many months together writing and editing, and we’re pleased it’s getting the attention it deserves – like this article in the Ypsilanti Courier. Here’s a great piece of the article that we think really captures the essence of Enjoy!:
“826michigan’s Enjoy! Recipes for Building Community celebrates its four main ingredients: the creativity of Ypsilanti students, an inspiration to write, a willingness to share their culture with the community, and, of course, an appetite.
Students, aided by 826michigan’s volunteers, raided the cupboards of their home culture to contribute recipes and how-to’s, memoirs and personal narratives about their experiences with cooking.”
Enjoy! Recipes for Building Community is available for purchase online at www.onwardrobots.com, at 826michigan’s storefront the Liberty Street Robot Supply & Repair, and at Washtenaw County retailers Downtown Home and Garden, Literati Bookstore, beezy’s cafe, and The Eyrie. Proceeds benefit 826michigan’s free creative writing and tutoring programs for 2,700 students aged 6-18 in Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, and Detroit. Enjoy! was produced with generous support from Thomson-Shore and Zingerman’s.
