In your tenth anniversary year, you’ve just got to do something EXTRA special. For us, that means opening up a permanent new center in Detroit, (Detroit Robot Factory, anyone?) and celebrating our work in the city with a dinner in the dead-of-winter. Sweater Weather, meet Parka Weather! Trust us—-Parka Weather is going to be an incredible time. It would be impossible for a less than amazing time to occur in a room with special guest and novelist Angela Flournoy, anyhow.

Why so, you ask? Well, Angela wrote a book that became a FINALIST for the National Book Award. The Turner House is phenomenal literature and we can’t wait for you to join us at Parka the turner house Weather to honor the incredible stylings of our students with one of the America’s greatest contemporary writers.

You can also expect the venue and food to be a delight. 826michigan’s fourth annual feast to raise funds to provide free in-classroom writing support to Detroit teachers will include:

*Keynote from best-selling author and National Book Award Finalist Angela Flournoy.
*Deluxe urban feast created by Chef Sarah Welch inside the Grand Army of the Republic Building
*Reasons to support 826michigan’s programs which last year served 3,229 school-aged students with over 40,000 hours of one-on-one attention.

Join us! Tickets are available right now at parkaweather.brownpapertickets.com.

This program currently serves several public and charter schools in the city, including Roberto Clemente Learning Academy, Detroit Achievement Academy, and Golightly Educational Center.

We are tremendously grateful to Angela Flournoy for attending as our special guest-—and to our fantastic sponsors who have made Parka Weather possible: Detroit Women’s Leadership Network, Early Works, Grand Army of the Republic, Mindfield, Pot & Box, and Republic Tavern Detroit.
