the Toyota USA Foundation is supporter of the month

The start of this school year is unique in that we get to celebrate the fall launch of after-school tutoring TWO TIMES. In late September, we delighted at the start of Liberty Street Tutoring. This November, we are glad for a second launch period to welcome students back to Washington Street Tutoring in Ypsilanti! It gives us an extra special way to acknowledge the generous support 826michigan receives from the Toyota USA Foundation to make our after-school tutoring programs possible.

Specifically, the Toyota USA Foundation will invest $150,000—distributed over three years—to Washtenaw-based After-school Tutoring. It is one of our most beloved and necessary programs for students. Just as exciting, the leadership at the Toyota USA Foundation has made a point to go beyond making a gift by actively and deliberately encouraging their team members to donate their time in our writing and tutoring labs, volunteering alongside our students.

In early October, 826michigan was invited into Toyota’s local offices in Ann Arbor to share the program experience with Toyota team members and explain the many ways that they could volunteer or even get their own students involved in our programs. Toyota provides up to two full weeks of time for team members to volunteer throughout each year at any registered 501(c)3 nonprofit of their choice, and 826michigan is proud to be among the many mission-driven nonprofit options. We received a strong response at our presentation and anticipate seeing several vibrant Toyota team members soon in our Washtenaw-based programs.

What a great way to greet the middle of the semester, eh? We sure think so. Many thanks go out to the Toyota USA Foundation for their generous investment in our students. We celebrate the foundation as our November 2017 Supporter of the Month!
